Rio ‘e Forru is a granite canyon located in the ‘Gennargentu Arzanese’. The Forra is a small jewel embedded in the rugged rock. The river promises an unforgettable day along its high walls, natural poolstobogganing and at the end the spectacular passage of Pirincanes canyon. To reach Riu ‘e Forru you have discover the deepest heart of Barbagia! From the state road (SS389) you take the fork (see on google maps) for a narrow bridge and follow the paved road that after a few kilometers of drive deviates to the right (see on google) bringing you to the lake of Bau Muggeris. In spring this route is scenic and exceptionally beautiful. You have to go straight till the confluence with the river, crossing the bridge and holding the right direction. Is the time to park the car under large holm oaks (see parking on google). From here you continue by foot on the paved road for 1.4 kilometers. Wide and steep bends leads to a junction where you need to take the dirt road that passes near a shepherd house. In a few seconds it will meet the riverbed of Riu ‘e Forru (see the riverbed on google).

The river immediately begins to take the characteristics of a gorge with tall and majestic walls accompanying us to the first waterfall with a small Toboga or a nice dive. Continuing in the descent the natural pool leads us to the first panoramic rappel (C18) on another natural emerald pool.

At the end of the fall, the landscape around us imposes itself with all its majesty and beauty: a big and fairy-tale grotto above another emerald pool that creates a balcony leading to the second slope. This rappel (C23) faces a wonderful waterfall that also creates a beautiful natural pool.

The last stretch of river is characterized by a long 15-meter slide (C15) that leads us to face two nice toboggans one by 3 meters and the other by 5. Now Riu 'e Forru joins Rio Calaresu, this river is famous for the canyon of Pirincanes: a marvelous passage with high rocky walls and a lot of emerald pools. We are going to hike in the middle of the riverbed exploring the gorgeous Calaresu bringing us back to the car park in 25 minutes.
