Siscia canyon is a gorge just explored by Andrea Piallini and located near Sassari, specifically in Cargeghe. The environment around us is dominated by limestone and tuff, above the canyon, the Giorré plateau offers us impressive cliffs on which the homonymous Via Ferrata was built in 2013 by Corrado Conca.

Siscia can be easily reached by taking the SP3 state road out of the small town of Cargeghe. After one kilometer you will find a fork on the left that leads to a dirt road where it is possible to park no more than 3 or 4 cars (https://goo.gl/maps/dxjZFqX73jY8v77t5). The toponym fa 'Siscia' perhaps derives from 'Sa Isca': a term used to indicate a fertile soil rich in water ideal for cultivation. Nonetheless, the old mill indicates a presence of water and a constant flow.

From the car park, take the small road that passes the old mill and immediately reaches the river (200 meters). From here you cross a small bridge and after a short climb on the left you reach the riverbed. What immediately strikes us is the dense vegetation (it seems to venture into a mangrove jungle!) And above all the impressive calcification that has made, part of the shore and the surrounding caves, very similar to the cave environment with stalactites and stalagmites around us. Many of the abseils develop near waterfalls, the highest vertical being 15 meters.

The canyon is ideal for beginners who want to discover the world of canyoning by exploring a really fun river full of corners of particular beauty.
