CAPO CERASO
We are on the Capo Ceraso promontory, a small peninsula overlooking the Gulf of Olbia, surrounded by crystal-clear waters rich in marine life. From this privileged viewpoint, the panorama stretches from Capo Figari to the magnificent island of Tavolara, with its distinctive dolomitic rock formations.
Capo Ceraso marks the northern boundary of the Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo Marine Protected Area, a place that protects an extraordinary natural heritage of beauty and biodiversity.
The promontory is covered by typical Mediterranean vegetation, including wild olive trees, holm oaks, cork oaks, mastic shrubs, cistus, and heather, growing among the characteristic pink granite rocks that accompany us along the coastline.
Before setting off, we will provide you with all the technical equipment you need: wetsuit, harness, helmet, backpack, and waterproof containers for keeping your personal belongings dry.
WHAT TO BRING
For this experience, you will need:
- closed rock, trail, or hiking shoes; sandals and flip-flops are not suitable
- swimsuit
- a complete change of clothes
- towel
- 2 litres of water per person
- some snacks, if you wish
THE ROUTE
The route is approximately 2.5 km long, with a total elevation gain of around 219 metres. It does not present any particular technical difficulties, but some sections are rocky, uneven, and rough underfoot. A good level of physical fitness is therefore required, and participants should not suffer from vertigo.
The experience lasts approximately 3–4 hours, depending on the conditions and the pace of the group.
We begin by following some historic trails leading to the former military lookout post of Punta Maladrommì, located approximately 219 metres above sea level. Until the Second World War, a military garrison stationed here monitored naval and air traffic across an important part of north-eastern Gallura.
Once we reach the panoramic viewpoint, we continue along a trail leading towards the coast. Here, we put on our harnesses and helmets and, after a short safety briefing, begin a spectacular 30-metre abseil.
The descent allows us to overcome the steepest rocky section and reach the rocks directly above the sea.
BETWEEN ROCK AND SEA
Once we reach the water, we can finally cool off in the crystal-clear waters of Capo Ceraso and begin the most aquatic part of the adventure.
Equipped with masks and snorkels, we explore the seabed while snorkelling among fish, sea anemones, sea urchins, and shells, discovering the extraordinary marine life that inhabits these waters.
After a short break on land, we continue along the coastline, moving across the rocks and alternating walking, rocky passages, and cliff jumps. We then reach the top of a small islet, where we take a short break before facing one of the most exciting moments of the experience: an approximately 8-metre jump that takes us straight back into the water.
We then continue along the coastline, swimming through the natural channels between the rocks, until we reach Capo Ceraso Beach.
From here, a short walk brings us back to the cars.

Coasteering at Capo Ceraso is a complete adventure combining hiking, abseiling, climbing, swimming, snorkelling, and cliff jumping, allowing you to experience the coastline from a completely different perspective.
An experience also suitable for those trying coasteering for the first time, set in one of the most spectacular landscapes along the north-eastern coast of Sardinia.
